I have situations of violent behavior. I don t want to go but my Mom said I have no choice. We have a neighbor that works in psych hospital and asked her about it. I told her I dreaded needles and asked if I will have to get some. She said many patients get shots several times a day but my case is not as bad. She said I will however get one shot each night before bedtime. She said the purpose is to drug me and make me more cooperative and also to make me go to sleep. She said they normally give you an antipsychotic and a hypnotic sedative She told me the antipsychotic is to keep me under control and is many times like a chemical restraint. The hypnotic drug is to make me really drowsy and make me go to sleep even if I don t want to go to sleep. I don t want the medicine but she said they will force me to get it. Can I try to stay awake and alert if I want and fight the sleep? Also I worry about getting a shot every night and it will make my arms really sore? I had tetanus shot in the past and my arm was so sore the next day that I could not pick anything up. Those are my questions [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ]

Seriously, if you're for real, shots are not usually a daily occurrence in a modern psych hospital -- especially for minors. What does happen is that a patient having a violent episode, and therefore is presenting an *immediate* safety threat to herself or others, will be restrained and given an emergency sedative injection -- and that does go in the bottom. As long as you're a well behaved and cooperative patient, my guess is that you will get few, if any, shots. If you're put on a new oral medication, however, you should probably expect some blood draws, possibly every day for a few days, to check if the medicine has reached a therapeutic level in your system.
