It certainly does mine. Also tell your doctor if you're vegan; many will freak out that you're not getting enough reliable B12. It helps if you're "elderly" like me, though I began taking B12 shots almost 40 years ago. My first wife gladly took a B12 shot right before her period (said it helped with cramps) but would never give me one. My wife of 20 years gives me a B12 shot every week but takes one only rarely. We're both 60s & vegans. Absorption of oral B12 (even from vitamin pills) does diminish with age. My grandfather and two aunts also needed B12 shots; one aunt died of pernicious anemia in the 1940s. People of Celtic heritage are genetically prone to B12 problems. I'm Welsh/Scottish-American. If you're taking a 'fun' shot, at least make it useful. [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

I'd say she gained expert proficiency giving shots largely to my discomfort. She chose a different injection site each night, using saline, sterile water, and B-12. IMHO, the sterile water hurt the most. She even used different sized needles of varying gauges, all 1" - 1.5" long. She used 23G needles with saline giving me shots in the thigh muscle. Those pinched a little, but the first one downright hurt because she stuck the needle in gradually instead of a quick thrust like recommended. In the deltoid muscle (arm) she gave me the most shots, usually saline or sterile water. She used mainly 25G needles. Those with saline acutally didn't hurt much, just a tiny poke and a dull ache when the saline was injected. But the ones with sterile water stung like crazy. I don't know why water would hurt more, but it feels like getting nabbed by an angry wasp or hornet. She saved the B-12 fir giving butt and hip shots, using a 22G needle inserted 1.5" deep into the outer quadrant of each glute muscle. The needle jab was usually painless. Again, a dull ache followed by a burning sensation as the B-12 was injected. She tried a couple sterile water injections, and those sting even more than in the deltoid. I had been borderline scared to death of needles before I allowed her to practice on me. I'm still not crazy about needle jabs, but I don't let it control how I get vaccines any longer. When she got her nursing degree, part of the celebration was letting her give me a long overdue tetanus booster. Those are usually meant for the deltoid, but she chose to give it in my butt. So I bent over the kitchen counter of our apartment. A tight pinch and a sting. I let out a small "OW!". She massaged out the pain and put a bandage on it.
