Subject: first time seeing injection

When bending over a receptionist's lap with pants down for a shot in childhood, I was encouraged to think that the posterior sting I felt was the girl pinching my bare bottom. The first time I realised what was really happening was when I looked over my shoulder before bending over and saw the injection. Nurses now usually make me bend over (albeit not across receptionists' laps) before preparing my injections so I can't see them in advance. Most frightening is when the nurse enters holding the shot behind her back, especially if she utters the platitude, "Bend over; this won't hurt".

I don't understand the reason for a receptionist. I was always a fighter at shot time. Eventually, rather than fight with me over an arm injection, mom just turned me over her knee (spanking style) and if I resisted too much, a few good spanks took the fight out of me. This was back in late 50's and 60's. After the first time, even when I was in my teens, I was always told to go over mom's lap for the shot. It was a very busy pediatric practice and they didn't want to get behind by me resisting. It worked!
