 The first time I wasn't worried at all because I presumed not being ill I wouldn't need an injection, but I forgot about booster shots and soon found myself bending across the receptionist's lap with everything pulled down to my ankles to get them. They didn't hurt as much as my usual penicillin shots back there but afterwards I couldn't sit down for days. Whilst all of my school friends probably got the same injections, none ever admitted to getting them in the bottom, which made me feel childish by comparison.

After that, I fearfully expected booster shots to be part of any routine examination but I was always afraid of where I would get them, deeming injections in the arm a rite of passage. No such luck in that I had to drop trousers, pull down pants and bend over the receptionist's lap for my shots well into adolescence. The embarrassment of the girl watching me injected in the bare bottom was worse than the shots themselves.
