A number of posts here indicate that shots were given in the buttocks for throat/strep infections; and though, yes shots can be given that way, there have to be a reasons for buttocks injections. Two come to mind. A determination by throat culture or blood work that an infection in one's throat is viral or bacterial, and 2, not too many posters seems to indicate in many of these posts re: throat problems, that a temperature was taken first. There's a good chance that a bacterial infection such as strep might well show an elevated temperature (One of the first things that should be obtained for a sick visit) and then the follow-up with a throat culture and visual throat inspection.
I've had strep before and prior to any shots/meds given or prescribed, my vitals were taken and if there was a suspicion that perhaps I did have a strep throat, a culture and/or blood work was done.
