Write a position paper about their weaknesses and strengths. Would use them with your students? Why? Give reasons. Clearly identify the listening tasks you are writing about.

I could use the following audios from the web site www.esl-lab.com:

A fun day
A hiking family
Snack Time

I think all these files are very good. According to the teachers intention recording audios can make the perfect match. They are free, available to everyone who has computer and internet access. The download is easy and fast. The audios are mostly for beginners. Some of the dialogues provide a daily vocabulary and bring casual conversation with piece of information that recalls lots of background knowledge that they have already acquired. The speaker’s context is familiar to the experimented by student’s lives. It is a perfect place for students make inferences about some unknown words and expressions that they may come across. The dialogues sound natural and it is really important because allows students get in touch to foreigners accents. It prepares students for real life situations where they will have to listen and answer to a variety of voices accents, ages, genders and so forth. Another big advantage of the listen activity is that audio recorders can be played several times and some repetition is important in the learning language process.
The disadvantages of these audios lay in the fact that they are no interactive and sometimes the out of context. They don’t provide any extra linguistics features such body language or gestures. The topics do not bring new facts or relevant information so students may not feel instigated by the content. Some idiomatic expressions used can be a problem if it is not properly explained. It can lead them to assume that the speaker is using the words in a literally sense.
