If it is remembered that both of us suffered deliberate Christian tampering with our reasoning faulties when young, it might reveal the natural innate recuperative ability. We are discussing the Tao (Dow) and its depth of spirituality. The Tzu's are two emminent Chinese philosophers schooled for generations in their own ways. -------------------- Interesting question Seoc. First I wish to say that the article is a objective comparative study, or analysis of Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu's writings. I found the article interesting for several reasons which I will not get into now. While both Tzus provide perspectives of thought they did so within the confines of language - at best a limited form of symbolism. The thoughts they conveyed of Tao are intuitive. In order to find meaning in the poetry and metaphor of their writings, I believe, will lend one to follow their own intuition. This is in part total acceptance of nature (some might call it love). The only way one can have the mind explain itself is through acceptance and not seeking explanation. Unlike religions the Tao does not seek self examination, special acts or commitments. The commitment is to the Tao (what ever is - is and what ever will be will be) As Chuang Tzu said: "If you have grasped the purpose of life there is no point in trying to make life into something it is not, or cannot be. If you have grasped the purpose of destiny, there is no point in trying to change it through knowledge. If you wish to care for your body, first of all take care of material things, as even when you have all things you want, the body can still be uncared for. Since you have life, you must first of all take care that this does not abandon the body. However, it is possible for the body to retain its life, but still not be sustained. Birth cannot be avoided, nor death be prevented. How ridiculous to see the people of this generation who believe that simply caring for the body will preserve life". I have provided only a very short piece. The point he makes is life must be lived and good health is imperative to life, that the mind and body are one, and a healthy mind will not exist with out a healthy body, and a healthy body cannot exist without a healthy mind - Harmony. You should not look for the Tao in anything specific. There is nothing without it. The perfect Tao is like this -so: it is called the Great. Complete, all embracing, universal, all words, but one meaning. "Imagine that we were wandering in the palace of No-Place Harmony and unity would be our themes, never ending, never failing! Join with me in actionless action! In simplicity and quietude! In disinterest and purity! In harmony and ease! My intentions are now aimless. I go nowhere and have no idea how I got there; I have been, I have gone. I have no idea when my journey is over. I wander and rest in unlimited vastness. Great knowledge comes in and I have no idea where it will all end. And of course all is Yin and Yang. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
