Tom, My buddy,s dad had a wrecker service in Montgomery AL in early 60's. On Sat.nights we would take the wrecker to the races at Montgomery International Speedway They ran 3 classes: Modifieds, Sportsmen and Hobby cars on Sat.nights. I remember one night your Dad was giving all Them Florida Boys(Bobby and Donnie Allison and Red Farmer all the compatition they could handle in his hot little modified. Donnie forced your dad into the wall in the last lap. We took the wrecker out to load his badley busted car on his trailer. I know he was mad but also had his bell rung pretty good. While we were loading his car I noticed that he was keeping a close eye on Them Florida Boys as they were the heroes and had a bunch of fans congradulating them. Your dad very calmley went up to both of the Allisons and shook their hands. He looked both of them in the eyes and told them he would be back and would be playing the same game they were playing.
Will he did come back and for the next 3 or 4 weeks he won all of the modified main events at Montgomery.
I never got to see your Dad on a big track but he sure didn't take a backseat to anybody in Montgomery. I also remember him saying something about Montgomery had one of the fastest tracks around and the Hardest walls.
I May be able to find some photos of yor dads modified race car. If I can locate them i will be happy to send them to you.
Yeah, The Alabama Gang were known as "Them Florida Boys" in the early 60's.
