Santiago lauds Pangilinan for backing RH bill
By Christina Mendez (The Philippine Star) Updated September 26, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (4)

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago backed yesterday businessman Manuel Pangilinan’s stand in favor of the Reproductive Health (RH) bill.
The RH bill’s author and co-sponsor in the Senate issued the statement after Pangilinan announced his “complete and total disengagement from the Ateneo” (de Manila University).
Santiago lauded Pangilinan for “courageously and publicly supporting” the RH bill.
“My only prayer is that more people would be as independent-minded as Manny,” she said.
“The RH bill would be beneficial to our people, especially the poor. No one can help us but ourselves.”
Quoting Pangilinan’s letter to Ateneo president Fr. Jett Villarin, S.J., Santiago said the businessman manifested that he does not agree with some pronouncements of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, including its recent stance on the RH bill.
“At times, I believe the CBCP has taken positions contrary to the interest of our country,” Santiago quoted Pangilinan as saying.
