Poem for the Horse Victim -- Shocking News by Carlo G. Soldevilla

Shocking News
By Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on September 25, 2013

This is a shocking news that may surprise anyone,
When the stout, brown horse bit its master’s organ.
I don’t find it good to make a poem out of this.
I hope this won’t offend you, I beg you please.
They said an evil spirit came inside the horse.
But they use it (the horse) daily for transportation, of course.
Maybe the horse was upset or 'provoked' by its master’s red shirt
That made it (horse) bite its master’s most precious bird.
For privacy purposes, the horse’s master’s name is called Roldan.
Of course he is not from my place in the City of Kidapawan.
He lives in Malita- No, it’s not a Visayan luggage bag.
It’s somewhere near Digos. Just read the highway tag.
The master’s 19 years old and is just newly wed.
His wife’s 4 months pregnant , she might worry in bed.
But she can’t do anything except to accept the fate.
Bad things sometimes happen, maybe early or late.
“What can I do ? What can I do?”
The doctor tried to reconstruct ‘your being you.’
‘Let’s wait what would happen if there’s a need to amputate.’
I prayed it would be restored, G-d have mercy on his fate.
Note: I watched this news on TV last night, and I’ve just read about it from the Manila Bulletin dated September 25, 2013. No malice intended in writing this poem. My apology.. if this would somehow affect the horse victim. The sad event happened yesterday in the Philippines-the country where I was born.

Diarrhea
by Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on February 17, 2016

When you fight in politics, just fight, but always remember the golden rule.
Take note you have to fight clean, not foul, and don’t treat the other as fool.
The election day is near, and which one or whom will the fountain bless?,
Five (5) coins in the fountain, each one dearly praying “L-rd, your will be done..but will You please have me as the one (to bless).”.
All energies & physical exertions spent because of campaigns and thousands of minutes for speeches,
Sharing a diarrhea of ideas how to help build a stronger nation, (should he/she be the chosen one)—all these promises.

Kidapawan…Home of Native Chicken Barbecue
By Carlo G. Soldevilla
June 29, 2015

Kidapawan is also the Home of Native Chicken Barbecue.
A simple meal at night along the highway will be good for me and you.
Using bare hands to taste the chicken, with soy sauce, vinegar and chili.
These are elementary and high school days to remember..even after earning a college degree.

Just one story to share, Hear ye! Hear ye!
Emilia Claud taught me guitars..It was Christmas, O yeah!
I was the guitarist..My two close friends (janitors ) and me were having Christmas carol(s)..
Out of the carols’ ‘earnings’, we went straight to Kidapawan Barbeque Lane along Roxas Boul (evard).

So the three of us (Ben, Gaga and Me) became well-known along the lane during the caroling weeks,
Order here, and there. The barbecue taste was just nourishing as we talked with the vendors, too.
‘Please buy here, Please buy here’ was the usual statement of the ladies in the stalls on the lane.
We chose the place, we dined..A coke right after, and we only left the place after our stomachs were full.

January came, Gaga told me that the lady vendors, all the while, thought that we were rich.
Why almost daily, during Christmas, we bought chicken as we pleased.
Yes, it was January, past Christmas, when Gaga was ‘ encouraged’ by a beautiful barbecue saleslady to buy at her barbeque place—
This time, he (Gaga) was evading.. because no more Christmas carol funds to back up for the meals.

At the back of Gaga’s mind (he later told me..), “Beautiful lady, wait until Christmas time..It’s only during this season that I/we have funds.”-- thinking of caroling as a ‘way of living.’

My 'Happy New Year' Poem - I Tried MATH by Carlo G. Soldevilla

I Tried MATH
by Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on January 2, 2017

Tomorrow, how would the Banaue Rice Terraces look like?
Will the fogs come down and trekking Batad - A good hike?

I'm all set to buy a bundle of rice to plant - Unsprayed since 3,000 year ago,
I will try to plant them in the lowlands. I hope by organic farming, they will grow.

Of course, I tried MATH:
Moma, Apog, Tabako and Hapid (leaf)

Chewing them, just like our ancestors did thousand of years ago,
Even without wool jacket..it (Moma) will keep the body warm--the chew.

A brighter day, with an orange teeth- This will be the consequence.
Chewing gum is easy. Chewing moma can be doubly hard,
'No spitting of Moma here.' Hence.., (the rule in Banaue Market).

Poem for the Next ‘Queen’ -- A Thousand Ships by Carlo G. Soldevilla

A Thousand Ships
by Carlo G. Soldevilla
Written on January 26, 2017

Excited to know who would be the next reigning queen,
From all over the world the selection would soon begin,
The gown, the walk, the appearance, the talk & their way of valuing friendships
Who will be the next ‘Helen of Greece’ that would launch a thousand ships?

I am excited only in one thing-It's the way they answer (the question) .
They could have mastered all questions beforehand, and have prepared for the answer.
About the manner or style, or simply their poise, about the way they handle themselves while on stage…
Let’s see who will win. My question:?- Which of the two will you desire: growing in beauty or ripening in age?
