Historical Glimpse of the First Soldevilla Clan Grand Reunion

The clan grand reunion started with just an idea dawned when one of my nieces created a Soldevilla Family page on Facebook on September 11, 2011. The page was intended to connect with one another just intended for our family. My niece made me one of the administrators for that page which I basically opened for all the Soldevilla's and changed it into the Soldevilla's Clan Page. Many of my cousins and relatives joined and the number grew in the course of time.

There were members of the clan that encouraged me to have the coat of arms for the clan, so I started to do research until I finally discovered the wonderful history of the Soldevilla's through the internet, and more importantly, through the testimonies of various family elders. I have realized that the Soldevilla's sprung from only one root -- Santa Barbara in Iloilo where the three legendary Spanish brothers who migrated to the Philippines settled.

Inspiration came on Christmas Day of December 2011. One of the clan members posted pictures on the page celebrating their family reunion. I ask myself, why not have a Soldevilla Clan Grand Reunion?

I posted my plan on the page to have the first Soldevilla clan grand reunion and the first to respond were Melani Soldevilla Hansen and Rowen Soldevilla. I enthusiastically communicated with the two and planned out for the First Soldevilla Clan Grand Reunion. Later, Ferds G Sol, Brigida Soldevilla Debil, Pearly Soldevilla Kang (Jinju Villa del Sol), Katzkatz VillaDelsol, Teresita Soldevilla Catedral,and Celso Soldevilla joined as coordinators.

The first coordinators' meeting was set and held at Pags Restobar in San Jose de Antique on April 13, 2013. The first grand reunion was set to December 21-22, 2013 and it was decided that area coordinators be organized to facilitate coordination and information dessimination. Online meetings follow suit for the details of the preparations.

The first Soldevilla Clan Grand Reunion was successfully held and was opened with a thanksgiving mass at the St. Joseph Chapel. The grand reunion was attended by more than five hundred clan members coming from various places in the Philippines and even abroad. The venue was at The Metropolis Club House, Brgy. Bito-on Jaro, Iloilo City with the theme: "Connected by Roots, Separated by Distance, Reunited!"

Towards the end of the activity, the coordinators planned for the next succeeding grand reunions. The group decided to hold the grand reunion every five years. The first Soldevilla Clan Board of Officers were elected and the First President to lead the clan in five years term was: Ferds G Sol.

Looking forward for the Second Soldevilla Clan Grand Reunion on January 20, 2018. The host is New Lucena Iloilo group headed by Oliva Suelo as overall coordinator. The board election will also be held on that same day and will determine the host for the next clan grand reunion on 2023.

As a Soldevilla clan, we gather because we have a past to remember, a present to celebrate and a future to generate. A legacy necessary to pass on for generation to generations.
