(the team came 43rd.)!!! It was still a big achievement getting there. I had always had a dream to do something special in football, and playing in the Homeless World Cup was just that. Oh, and I also loved the opening ceremony and parade; wearing the green and gold, lining up with the team and seeing all the other countries. I felt so proud and moved, it was a very emotional experience. What was something you learned about the world or in fact about yourself at the Homeless World Cup? “I learned not to give up in life when all looks lost. The Homeless World Cup gave me hope and inspiration. At times in my life I felt it was too late to rebuild. Sometimes I still feel a bit that way, but I know that people care about people like me, something I haven’t always thought. Sometimes even though I have been around people, I have felt alone, that something was missing and I wasn’t happy. I have started to feel part of the world again. What did you find the biggest challenge about the HWC? I must admit that I couldn’t perform at my best while over there. I was injured and on medication. But anyway, what an experience to represent Australia! What has happened in your life since Copenhagen? Not much has happened but I think I see the world very differently now. It is clearer and brighter, if you know what I mean. I think I have been empowered to fight. But I still have my accommodation and most importantly my drug rehabilitation is going well. Things will start happening for me though. What are some of your goals in the short term or even the long term? I want to complete my drug rehabilitation, be drug free and need no more medication. I also want to start looking at employment….I’d love to work in soccer. I would also like to work in drug and alcohol rehabilitation. I’d love to help people. What are some of the challenges ahead for you in the future? I need to stay motivated, healthy, drug free and keep moving forward in life. What message do you have for the Homeless World Cup Family? Support to the Homeless World Cup. It is a great cause and helps people fight. There should be more programs like this one. Thanks to everyone who has helped me… all the supporters around the world especially round Australia. Thanks to the governments and all our sponsors too, And thanks to the organisors of the HWC for an opportunity of a lifetime. Merry Xmas to you all, see you all in Melbourne in 2008!
