I like that idea.

However I would suggest waiting until slightly later childhood, for a specific reason.
I think boys can be quite gentle creatures if raised in a gentle household with the right influences until around age 9 or so, when they inevitably discover their dominance/strength out of the con-current 'discovery' of their extra parts between their legs. Having "something" compared to girls "nothing" (or outie vs. innie) gives them notions of betterment at around this age, 9 or 10.
So, I think the idea of waiting until right then, right when their angelic nature is starting to turn, to use a sharp, sudden, strong testosterone blocker along with a slight female-hormone boost.
Assuming the child is raised somewhat girlishly, at least to accept a lot of girlish attire as normal, then this could work better than cutting off all male hormone influence from the start...
The male child, at this age and stage of development, who has this happen will really notice the change in his feelings and will also notice the sudden change in his supposed longer/bigger genitals (compared to girls).
This change, in physical size of the parts (as they rapidly and suddenly shrink up), in the growth/'nice feelings' loss (sudden elimination of erections etc.), and in their psychology (a sharp drop-off in aggression, loss of interest in violent sports, etc) makes, I believe, an even more well-rounded, gentle, and above all understanding older child and teenager, who could be quite rapidly guided into girlhood afterwards.
