There are those states who have rules specific to that state, such as CA's requirement for a steady-burning red light to the front and flashing amber light to the rear. (Remember the Twinsonic light bar on Squad 51?)

CT used to require "running lights" on police cars at night, low-wattage steady burning lights in the light bars. These lights were an option on the early Whelen strobe light bars. (Whelen is a CT-based company and outfits most of the CT SP cruisers.)

Vermont SP does use flashing amber lights facing the rear, but had to stop using Whelen strobe bars with red LED message boards because they wouldn't pass inspection!

Be interesting to know if any other states had odd requirements. (Other than the greenies for EMS in NY.)
