In reply to: Still nauseas over the new and improved. $20 says he don't last the next 24 hours. 's message, "Whoa, Mr. Nice Guy, you are so right on! Seeing Canuk Chris and BP battle it out over the techie info of the 429 is sure exciting. I am glad this is a re-run week for TV. Hey, wait, it must be rerun week right here too!" on 22:35:22 12/03/02 Tue

BP wrote me once telling me about his 3 or 4 70's PI's that he owns and boy did he tell me how much faster the 429 was!

Yet a few months later, I found an OLDER email from Bill askin to buy my car, and that he doesn't own any but is lookin!

And from that day on I always thought, HOLY SHEET! if my 78 is wiping the floow with mustangs and some other muscle cars, then WOW that 429 must be runnin 12's!

BUT just last summer I met a guy who ACTUALLY owns the cars, he owns a 71 429 (his baby) and a 78 Ford 460 PI and a Merc PI as well!

Anyways he told me that the 71 was a lil quicker, but hardly noticeable! compared to his 78!... hmmm thats what I figured too.

Then I spoke to the rebuilder(machine shop) and he tells me that my 78 460 8.5-1 compression would beat any 11-1 compression today cause of the sheety gas, and if I wanted to run 11-1 no problem I would need a ignition system put in and to retard it, then I would lose ALOT of power, and then i'm really wasting money!
he said to work on the hads, BUT after finding out the heads are already done up.. to just leave it be and go for the headers and exhaust!

Chris

don't forget to port and polish them while you've got those heads off. Balancing and blue printing the motor would help tremendously increase the "flow". SO , too , would a Holley 1150 cfm double pumper carburetor, as well as the 3" stainless exhaust, a hi-po Accel ignition system, flow master, etc. You'l l have that 4,700 lbs boat setting land speed records when you're finished with it! Just like Ford intended it to be!12:17:02 12/04/02 Wed
