In reply to: Robert Robinson (a copcar dot com lurker) 's message, "Note to "Pete" and "Monaco man" , OK everybody else please read also, and tell me if you agree." on 16:44:57 11/06/02 Wed

I don't know what exactly precipitated the closure of all the cop car dot com message boards but I'm extremely sorry to see it. I visited this one and the for sale board almost daily and chimed in when I felt I had something to positive to add. Dave has gone to a lot of effort to make this site available and the hobby more enjoyable. I do hope he sees fit to open up the sites again.
I do however strongly agree that the tone and attitude of some of the posts has become very harsh, aggressive and at times downright abusive. People make a simple statement and they risk being burned at the stake about it. You can disagree with someone or point out the error they have made without being vulgar or degrading.
I recently purchased a 1994 Caprice LT1 from my old department. It was the last Chevy and the last car with (what I think is) a very sharp graphics package. The same lady that did the Colorado S.P. and the Ft. Collins Colorado cars designed it. I was allowed to buy it with the graphics etc in tact because they new it would be restored and used in only an appropriate manner. It is also of importance to me because it was the last contact I had with the Chief before he passed away. Now everyone I knew, or worked with is gone, this car is the only link I have to an important part of my past. This car means a great deal to me. I tell you all this because I would have loved to have talked about it with the people on this board. What it needed, the trip to bring it back, what it still needs and the progress. I didn't mention it because I didn't want to hear all the garbage about "restoring new cars" or "just another wannabe". I know I run the risk of opening myself up to ridicule and harassment by a few individuals that post here but I think it might be worth it now. I enjoy MY hobby. I have two restored cars, one nearly done and one in the wings. At least when there is a DARE show or a fund raiser for a fallen officer I will show up, and with more that a bicycle and a load of excuses.
Thanks Dave for providing a spot for collectors and others to talk it over. I do hope you will continue with your efforts.
Mike

Mike, the '94-96 LT1 Caprices are the best police cars ever made to date. I would like to hear about your '94's history and progress and there are other folks like me. Remember, it's usually the wannabes who are fast on the draw critizing restoration of not so old vehicles. As the saying goes "Attack is the best defense". Don't stop sharing info because of folks who are not in the hobby. (NT)Giant23:42:44 11/08/02 Fri
