Subject: OK, so ya think his cars "are not impressive", so what? The important thing is that HE enjoys them..and that they're not hidden away in some garage slowly rotting.

Lets not lose focus here. If a person is a responcible collector, they deserve our support. "Impressive" vehicles or not.

I used to feel as some of you apparently do, that it's all about how much $ you can sink into a car and how many trophies you can bring home. Not so anymore. If you have a healthy (not a wanna-be or impersonator) appreciation for cop cars and enjoy working on them, then you shouldn't be criticized for not having that pristine Polora or Monaco(or whatever).Don't get me wrong, those of you who do own those beautiful old show pieces certainly deserve the extra praise and admiration(Lord knows I admire them!),but the rest of us shouldn't be made to feel like we are garbage. The one exception I have to admit is,like a lot of you, I don't really think there is a place for all the 'fresh outta service/straight from the auction' CV's (and yes..even Caprices)that are loaded with none department specific/generic "toys" and called "restored".
At the risk of sounding like a hypocrite, the ONLY reason I consider my 9 year old Caprice to be 'restored' is because I started with nothing but a beat up/worn out sad p.o.s.. My car had been almost completely 'civvied' (sp?) ("cop" seats replaced. carpet instead of rubber, no spotlight..) and was in bad need of repair. I spent nearly a year and TONS of $ fixing both mechanical and body damage. THEN I started with the months of research and even MORE $ getting the specific department'police' aspect (real markings, proper equipment, assorted interior display crap)together.
What's my point, you ask? My point is that my OTHER car is nearly 20 years old and was purchased in far better shape and required a LOT less work and $, and yet THAT(by most of you folks standards) is the car that will be considered more "impressive". As proud as I am of that car, somehow that doesn't seem right.
In summery; Please don't look down upon a person just because you don't feel their car doesn't fit 'your' standards. It's all in the blood, sweat, tears, heart and soul EFFORT that went into it that counts. If a person conducts themselves responsibly within the hobby, doesn't hurt anyone and gets honest pleasure for himself and/or others out of it, why thumb your nose at him?

just my 2 cents (and then some) take it or leave it.
