I am not nor have ever been in law enforcement but I have been doing alignment work for over 10 years now..........and driven scads of vehicles.
Long story short: what is the point of independent rear suspension in a truck/SUV or a police/taxi?
IMHO there are simply more things to break as vs. a simple yet well located live rear end a la the 1998+ CVPI's.
I am looking at it from a fleet service point of view.
IRS: you are looking at halfshafts............can someone say 4 CV joints to crap out in addition to the 2, minimum, U joints in the driveshaft? Plus the mulitude of additional parts involved........no thank you.
As a sidebar: one big reason that many of us own pickups and SUV's is due to relative simplicity...........otherwise instead of new trucks I would probably have purchased a new RWD sedan with a normal rear end...........assuming that one was available for under $22K or so............Camaros and Mustangs do not count...........too small.
