"Gone From Daylight"

Shadow Veil - Comicality possesses the ability to 'pull' the emotional distress from others and convert it into physical shadows, which he wraps around himself to hide his identity. This dark, swirling, mass of negative energy is a combination of the subconscious fears and suffering that everyone has in their own heart or soul. He hears the screams. He feels the cold. But has lived with it for so long that he has grown an exceptional tolerance to the agony of it all. What is unclear is whether or not this extra actually relieves the pain of his host, or if he merely shares it with them. It is unknown if he has ways of weaponizing this mass of shadows, as he has accumulated many other extras over the years and has leaned to master them all. But one thing is certain...the horror of controlling the shadows is his primary extra. And if there is a much more dangerous application for them than merely concealing his identity, one would be wise not to be on the receiving end of its fury.

"You think darkness is your ally? But you merely 'adopted' the dark. I was born in it. Molded by it."- Bane, "Dark Knight Rises"

Shrouded in mystery, the enigma known only as the Vampire Comicality remains hidden away from most in the world of darkness. His identity has never been truly revealed, nor have their been any clues given as to how or why he crossed over into darkness in the first place. Details about where he lives, where he sleeps, or even how long he's been one of the undead, have all been obscured and kept secret by the few people close enough to even guess at his motives or his personal history. And they may only have vague and scattered rumors at best.

It is apparent that Comicality has close ties to the Elders in the area, but it isn't known whether or not he is an Elder himself. To other vampires, he is more a mysterious legend than anything else. Some even go so far as to doubt his existence. Others have come to fear the shadowed appearance of this dark stranger. But whether they see him as a myth, a menace, a warrior, or a prophet...Comicality may be none of the above.

It was his treasured additions to the sacred scriptures in the Nifty Archive that created his legend many years ago. Whatever it was that manifested his Shadow Veil extra in his past, it gave him further insight into the pain and suffering of others. With a deeper understanding of suffering, came a deeper understanding of the pursuit of joy. And of love. And the path towards bridging the gap between the two. It was a message that many vampires could relate to, and they began to seek him out so they could learn more.

However, it was Comicality's abilities that began to absorb more shadows than he could handle from the many vampires who came to him for help. He became more withdrawn, more emotionally distant. He was dealing with so many shadows from others that his own darkness went unchecked. His fears, his anger, his pain, his loneliness...he pushed them down so deep in his subconscious that they eventually became 'self aware'. Through some strange malfunction of his extra...those rage filed emotions manifested themselves into a giant monster that began to hunt Comicality and everyone that he was close to...first from within his dreams...and now in the physical realm as well. This creature is known only as 'The Beast'. It feeds off of fear, off of regret, off of pain...and the more Comicality tries to fight it, the stronger it becomes.

Afraid of being plagued by more shadows, and concerned about the safety of those he cared about due to the fury and relentless pursuit of the Beast...Comicality became isolated from the rest of the world. For many untold years he remained detached from the rest of society, only surfacing on occasion to add to his growing collection of written testaments from the dark. He no longer recognizes his own humanity. He has abandoned it, using the writing of vampire scripture and prophecy as an excuse to say that he no longer needs it. In some ways, he may feel that his 'mission' to inspire and intrigue his public is the only thing that he has left to give. It is the only thing that makes him worthy.

While very powerful, both feared and respected, Comicality's major flaw is that he cannot see in himself what others see from a distance. He believes more in the mask than in the vampire he used to be. He wants to believe that he is dead to all emotion. He is not. And the more he stays hidden in the shadows, the bigger his legend becomes. A hype that he can never live up to. A mythology that he can never control. The shadows provide him with a barricade to wall himself away from the rest of the world. Even those chosen to remain in his contact have come to realize that trying to get too close to the mystery is futile. Maria, Chad, Jazz and Dizz, and even Justin himself, will confirm that he can be cold and unavailable when it comes to a true connection. Years go by, and they find themselves knowing nothing more about him than they did before. Comicality's only real emotional connection with the rest of the world is transmitted through the passion that he puts into his scriptures. It's the only true glimpse of his heart that people have access to.

Now that Comicality has come out of hiding, he is being forced to face the Beast once again. Something that he is willing to risk in order to train and protect the Vampire Mimic, and hopefully assist in leading those in darkness to the Vampire Dawn. Perhaps, once he's faced his own demons and his mission is complete...the shadows will fade. The walls will come down. The suffering will end. And he will journey back to finding the love and joy in himself that he tries to bring to others.

Until then....the mask of shadows remain...
