In eastern Oregon (desert) and in the Cascade Range it often gets pretty cold at night pretty early in the fall. Here in Eugene (Willamette Valley) it's milder. Got down to about 52 last night. This morning woke up to some much needed rain.
Rainfall here is way below normal. Of course, with irrigation, etc. it's not the problem it was a hundred years ago, but still difficult for farmers, I'm sure. I think of Laura and Almanzo and their trees in DeSmet. Wasn't it lack of rain that did them in?
