Jennie - if you read this, when you get back make sure to tell us all about your trip and where all you were able to go. I was in Egypt over Christmas last year - a lifetime dream come true. I fell in total love with the country and the people. I wanted to go over to Morroco too but I had a time constraint. I'd love to hear details!

What all do you want to know? LOL!!! It was the most awesome trip of my life. Basically we flew into Cairo and had a full day on our own before our tour started. We stayed at a hotel at the base of the Pyramids in Giza and I went to see them first thing in the am There were 10 total in our tour group including the tour manager and an Egyptologist who was with us the whole time. We flew to Luxor and went on a 4 night cruise UP the Nile (south) arriving in Aswan. Flew to Abu Simbel and back to Aswan and then back to Cairo. It was a 13 day tour and was so awesome. We saw so much, yet so little One big thing I wanted to do was see the Sound & Light Show at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor (has anyone seen The Spy Who Loved Me??? The scene where Jaws chases Bond through the tall pillars is that temple and they show a glimpse of the show too :-) We went in many of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings & Queens - including King Tut and learned that ancient Egyptians had FLUSHING TOILETS. Believe it or not, I think Aswan was my favorite city, with Luxor a close second. Aswan has 2 islands in between the Nile banks. One had our hotel and the other, Kitchener Island, is a botanical garden. We sailed everywhere on Felucca's (fancy word for a sailboat ). December was a wonderful time to go - the temps were in the upper 60's by day and 40's by night. PERFECT for touring. The people are so incredible. They love American's and are very protective of all tourists. They lost quite a bit of tourism due to 911, which had a global impact, and although their #1 industry is the Aswan Dam, tourism isn't far behind. When in Cairo a police officer stays with American's. When we went to a bazzar (sp?) to shop for a while an officer was with us and even did the bargaining! He was a great guy. What also is amazing is how so many people are poor but yet they are just all happy - their souls are at peace. And just another note, eventhough the country is 70% Muslim, everywhere we went we saw Christmas Trees and decorations and heard Christmas music and American music in general. I truly feel that everyone should go to Egypt. I was sad to leave and am dying to go back. I went with my mom, so my hope is to return with Garrett someday. Oh yeah, and yes I rode a camel in the desert ( will never do that again!) and was able to go inside one of the three pyramids at Giza (the pyramids are open on a rotational basis so one is always open).

Last note - at the end of the trip we flew to London (went through there both ways and stayed a night at both end to aide the jet lag). A girlfriend I met on the FG board 5 years ago who lives in Northern England took the train down and spent the night with me. It was AMAZING! LOL!!!
