Subject: My daughter loves the books!

Hi, I don't know if anyone still checks the board, but this is the first time I have visited in a long time! My daughter has recently become hooked on the LIW books after I gave her her own set of Little House books last Christmas. She is 8 years old and loving them! I am so glad. I devoured the books from the time I was 8 or 9 years old. I still re-read them from time to time. It is so nice to discuss them with her!

I think that's great news! I was around age 8 or so also when I began reading them. Have you yet to show her an actual picture of LIW? It's great that you now will have someone to discuss "Laura" with;)

I do check the board, probably once a week just to see if anything here. I had luck this time.

Hi LisaE

I have shown my daughter real photos of Laura and the rest of the family too. Her comments were that Laura was the prettiest of the sisters, but why when Mary was supposed to be the pretty one? She wishes the pictures I have shown her were in colour and that people were smiling! She is also interested that Laura was the only one of the sisters to have a child. I haven't gotten into it too deep yet, we can discuss so much more as she grows older.

Nice to know you still visit the board.

My 9 year old son loves them too. We have read all nine of them together twice. He could read them on his own, but hey, I need no encouragement!!

Hi Ellie

I have a 10 year old son who has read the first two books. He liked them, but not quite enough to pick up the third book just yet. I don't want to push it! He has however read the first book of the Martha Years and enjoyed that very much. It is set in Scotland and he was intrigued by that fact.

Hi, ladies. I still check the board at least once a week to see if the old friends come back. It was so nice to see this post.

My son is now 8. I wonder if he would like the books. Hmmmm

Anne, I cannot believe your daughter is that old already. It's a little like my situation I suppose.

Hi Delilah

try your son on the books; he may love them too!

It is good to see you still check the board. I wonder what hope we would have of resurrecting the board? Does Ann still visit, do you know?

Usually I visit once a week or so, but things have been hectic lately. Anne (with an e), it's great to hear that your daughter is reading LIW's books! What about the LHOP TV show? Is that on down there, and, if so, does she watch it?

Maybe around Christmas time we could post "Christmas letters" letting everyone know what we've been up to in the last year or so. :)

Hi Ann, nice to see you still check the board!

I did get some LHOTP DVD's out of the library for my daughter to watch (it is no longer screened here on free to air tv at the moment but I hear that it is on cable tv) and she thought they were ok, but she definitely prefers the books. She has read the first four books now and is re-reading Little House in the Big Woods again. She loved Farmer Boy also. She loves reading about what Almanzo used to eat. She can't believe how hard children worked in those days!

I will definitely pop back to post around Christmas time!

Holy smokes Anne, that sweet little baby girl is already 8 years old?! Wow, where did the years go?! Good to hear that she loves LHOTP books though - she's obviously brilliant! :)

I just popped in for the first time again in too long, it's nice to see some familiar faces again. Delilah, I MISS YOU!! Kellie wrote me an actual on-paper letter and sent in snail mail (amazing but true, people still use the postal service!), but she hasn't replied to my reply to her. (did that even make sense...?)

I agree with Anne, I wonder what hopes we have of getting all the oldies back together?

Hi Kim, nice to see you back here too! Yes, time is flying by fast! I look at my kids and can't believe how they are growing up TOO FAST! I'm just trying to relish the moments (even the difficult ones) knowing all too soon they will be leaving childhood behind.

Nice to see how many of us still check the board!
