Subject: Old school

I have just found out that I can go to an Open week at my old primary school as it's going to be knocked down shortly as a new one is being built, I only found out the other week as we drove past it, it was a shock to see a brand new one there. I don't live in the same town now so I didn't know , but have just found out from a site I go to that old pupils are invited to have one last look around, old teachers too. I think I will go as I have some very happy memories of that school and it will be nice to show my husband around it! I bet it will look much smaller than I remember it after all this time!!
I actually work for an Electricity company and work on the Demoliton/Service removals section, so we'll be getting the request for the Demoliton soon. I wish my daughter could come but she'll be at school as it's just before they break up for the summer.

Valerie, I'm sorry your old school is being torn town, but how nice that you get one more chance to see it. I'm sure it will look smaller than you remember, especially if the desks and chairs are still in it. I remember going back to my elementary school and the chairs and desks for the younger grades looked so tiny!
In the town where I grew up there is a Little Red Schoolhouse, a one-room school mcu like the one Laura attended on LHOP (only the Little Red one is older). In third or fourth grade our class went on a tour of it. I especially remember the big black stove. There was, of course, no insulation, so I imagine even with the stove going it was not very warm in the winter.
Have fun at your old school. Be sure to take pictures!

Yes Ann, I will take my camera. I did go back once when i was about 15 and my friends's younger sister was starting there, we managed to see two of my favourtie teachers and they both remembered me so i hadn't changed that much. One of them is now the head teacher at my god daughters school and I met up with him just recently, it was very strange to see him now as he was only in his early 20's then, it must have been his first teaching post, he looked very good for his age, I'm told he is still very into sport as he was back then. I know realise that I wish that I had either done teaching or if not been a a teachers assistant, but you don't always now what you want at 16/18 do you?
I've alway worked in offices, but I did enjoy helping out at my daughters school when she started in the reception class. Your school sounds really nice, my school was quite large, 3 classes per year and the new one looks even bigger, very modern, it looks more like a health centre or office building!!
