Subject: Family Tree

My dad and I have been trying to trace his family back, we already knew of my Great grandfather and now we have got more details of his father and last week just found out the name of my Great,Great,Great grandfather, he was born in 1810 so we've gone back nearly hundread years 6 generation including myself!! It's so great to know their names and we've found out from the census' what they did for a living, they came from another town here in Lancashire, close to where I live now. My Gt grandfather moved to anothr town in 1913 but on marrying my husband I have actually gone back to where my dad's family used to live.
My Gt,Gt grandfather was born in 1835 the year before Charles Inglalls so I have been imagining all sorts of stories in my head about what life would have been like for them. Not easy I guess as they would have been hard workers(not too well off) So no rich relatives in my history-yet!!
It's been so interesting doing this, my dad's sister has been interested for years and we hope to get some more details soon.My dad has a very good memory and remembers bits of strories his grandfather told him, which has been very helpful in all this.

Valerie that is neat your father is working on this with you and can tell you stories etc. I am trying to get my father involved too. I have traced the family back to the first man who came over to the states from Wales but before that the information drops off for the most part. My dad did go look for the river in Wales where they supposidly came from but couldn't locate it (last name is Colegrove and the origination of the name is those who lived in the grove by the river Cole). Anyway, I am going to have my dad go through old photos with me to identify people and put them on a *family tree* chart.

Yes, it is very interesting! I have only got one photo of my great grandfather on my dad's side, but now we have found out more about his family, names and dates etc. They are no longer just names anymore! My maiden name was Sager which we thought was originally from another country as we have found the name in Germany and France, but so far we've only gone to 1810 and they're still here in Lancashire. It must be more difficult to trace if your name is more common!! Someone saw my name on a site and contacted me,he has the same name and wondered whether we were related or
not, and he has given me lots of information.
