I watched the series about the 1900 house, and really enjoyed it, glad I didn't live back then, cleaning seemed never ending in the Vicotian house with all the dust amongst all their clutter, you'd find that all the dust had returned the next day! A woman's life was certainly hard back then. In the show they had a cleaner, so it was a bit easier for the mother of the house.

Dust is definitely one of those "If they can put a man on the moon, why can't they" eliminate dust type things! But I can imagine how bad it was trying to dust all those Victorian knicknacks. And in Frontier House they must have had to dust constantly. Those houses were not sealed up that tightly, and in the summer they had the doors and windows open most of the day, with not even screens to keep dust (or bugs) out.

Yes ,dust certainly has always been a problem especially back then and do you know what-I'm allergic to it, I didn't find out this until about 4 years ago! After I had my daughter I noticed that I kept coughing a lot, nearly every day I'd have an attack, but didn't know what it was down to. So they tested me as I had, had problems with one of my ears as well. So now I know what it is when I'm cleaning and I don't use dusters anymore, I have to wet wipe everything first which has helped a lot. It's worse with all the soft furnishing's we have, the carpets don't help but I prefer them. So i don't think I would have been much good back in those day's!
