Subject: Your Posts, and specifically Jennifers on Nellie Owens...

I have been so busy that I haven't been able to get here as often as I want to, but I wanted to tell you that I have been reading in here to catch up, and I have enjoyed your posts! Jennifer, that was very interesting information on the Owens family. I had known that Willy was blinded, but had never heard of the way it had happened. And, I think Ann is the one that had wondered why they never wrote it into the show(if I am wrong.. sorry girls). They Did have an episode where Willy and Albert had gotten in to Mr. Olesons fireworks, so at least there was a little acknowlegement of the incident on the writers' part!

WAs there some kind of warning in that show about being careful with fireworks or you might lose your eyesight?

Ann, do you mean was it one of the lines in the script? Gee.. I thought I knew about all there was to know about the show, and I couldn't tell you for sure if they mentioned that or not! Sounds like something that Nells or Pa would have said tho, don't you think?

Yes, I was wondering if it was one of the lines in the script, and it does sound like something Nells or Pa would have said.
I guess one reason I was annoyed that they brought in Albert was that they had Willie, and other boys at school for that matter, if they felt they needed boys. Did they have Cap Garland as a character on the show, regularly or once in a while? I don't remember that they did, but he would have been a good character to include.

I remember Caroline being so upset( on the show) because she wanted a boy for Charles, and was jealous of Mrs Sims( formerly Miss Beadle) for having a son, although she was very pleased When their daughter Grace was born. Could be Albert was brought in to sort of symbolize the fact that the real Charles and Caroline lost baby Charles, and maybe to memorialize him in some way? I am grasping here, lol. I definitely do not ever remember hearing Caps name or remember him as a passing character, although I think that it would have been a wonderful idea to include him. It would have made the Laura and Almanzo courtship so much more interesting. I wonder why they didn't think of that?

Maybe if they had brought in a Cap Garland character, a lot of us would have rooted for Cap, not Almanzo (g). To me, Dean Butler looked more like the real Cap than the real Almanzo, but supposedly they wanted Almanzo on the show to contrast Michael Landon in looks.
