The skaters are sort of like the people in track. Technically they can not be professionals (can't be in the Ice Capades for example) but they can accept money "under the table." So, even though I don't like having professionals in what is *supposed* to be the ultimate amateur athletic event, I think it's hypocritical to allow officially professional athletes compete in one event, but not another. Of course, I'd prefer that they were all genuinely amateur, but why allow it one way in one event and not in another?
Poor Jim Thorpe had his medals taken away from him because he playe semi-pro baseball (or was it football?), not even an event that was in the Olympics, let alone one he competed in in the Olyimpics.
Innocence in sports is definetly lost, if indeed it was ever really there in the first place.
