Subject: Old Town In The Green Groves

The new "Little House" book is coming out soon. For anyone who doesn't know it's about the Burr Oak years. My questions are, is everyone excited to read the new book and are you happy more of Laura's childhood will be published (fictional)? Or, do you think because Laura herself decided to omit this time period from the original series, a book should'nt have been written?

Also, I'm sure Mary's going blind will be included in this book. What about Freddie? Do you think the author has included him in the story?

Personally, I'm interested in reading this book...more out of curiosity as to how the events are presented than anything, but I can always use something *good* to read, too!

LisaE, did you happen to notice the release date of this book?

Yikes! You threw out some great questions!
IMHO, I think that the publication of this time period (of Laura's life) is great. While we don't know how *accurate* any of the events are presented, I think it's just another volume that a child or adult might pick up, enjoy and then want to learn *more* about LIW! I know that there are many who absolutely abhor (sp?) the fictionalized accounts that have appeared, so please don't send me to Doomsville! (g)

I think I'd rather read a non-fiction account of this period in Laura's life, but I'm also curious as to how it would be presented. I just hope the publishers don't try to pawn it off as a LHOP look-alike, as if it were part of the original series.
BTW, does anyone know when the Frontier House show on PBS is going to start?

Here's a link to Amazon's page about "Old Town in the Green Groves"...I'll be kind and simply post the url that you can copy and paste since my HTML skills are a little out of kilter! (g)

Thanks, Kellie -- I can't wait for this one. All those spinoff books are just FANFIC to me. And when all is said and done, the LH books are fiction, too.

I wonder if Cynthia Rylant will spell her name WRYLANT for this one, so the book will appear closer to the LH books on the shelves? (g)

I didn't know a new book was coming out. I Probably will buy and read it to see what it's like. I think that since I know what happened(or as much as biographers have found out) it will be interesting to see how accuratte it is or if it's way off.

I didn't know anything about this book! I am very curious how they will present the events during this time period. I can't wait to read it. I need to lurk around here more often!
