Women's Basketball (0-2). When is the program going to start winning? I don't see any improvement over the last few seasons.

I've watched/followed most of the games since Nicci took over.
If your point is that they're not real good or great, you're correct.
But, from watching the first two games, I think that they're an improved team, especially their grittiness on D.
I've never denied that Nicci took on a tough job nor have I been an apologist for Nicci, especially regarding her continuous staff turnover and lack of truly great recruiting success stories.
The three seniors have the most cumulative playing time of any group that Nicci has led so far. Supporting them are bench players Sophs Kateri Stone, Julia Barcello and Ariel Etheridge. Freshman Mylah Chandler looks very promising. Altho she starts two juniors, their minutes are limited. Jr. guard Katie Curtiss adds more to the team than 6'3" Steph Polland.
The other sop and 3 frosh have yet to demonstrate any consistent value added for the team. They'll need to step up. But, it will be a gradual process over the season.
There's a reasonable chance they can improve on last year's PL record. The o.o.c. schedule is really tough. But, Nicci is using that approach for gradually upgrading the recruiting draw and marketing the program overall.

Oh, please. Your suggestion that Nicci is using a tough OOC schedule to improve recruiting success and marketing is just silly. If anything, it hurts recruiting. Good recruits want to join a winning team. If you want some evidence of that, look at MBB. Colgate men play Syracuse every year in BB and they play other tough OOC teams. It has not helped recruiting at all. Colgate is so reluctant to pull the plug on poor performing coaches (why did they wait for so long in MBB before getting Langel) it might have another Foto in the making.

[> [> Monmouth 86 Gate 80 (ot) -- All Net, 11/22/15 4:27:16pm Sun

This is a better woman's ball team.
But, it will be a sawtooth season.
This game was in the "winnable" column of the o.o.c. slate.

Back to G.R.'s quibbling with the tough o.o.c. scheduling, The point is it's Nicci's INTENT that a tougher higher profile o.o.c. schedule will help recruiting and marketing the program. INTENT. You don't know any more than anyone else whether that works ? But, the point stands that is a key part of her strategy. Obviously, WINNING, showing a gradual improvement in the record in the PL, developing an attractive team culture and a host of other features go hand-in-hand with everything else.

Next game at DePaul in Chicago, one of the tougher o.o.c. games, along with UCONN and Gonzaga.

[> [> [> DePaul 96 Gate 46: Homecoming for Nicci! -- Swish, 11/28/15 10:54:38am Sat

This should add fuel to the fire of those questioning gate WBB playing "UP" or stretch games to attract recruits and market the program.
But coming back to play against Nicci's mentor DP Coach Doug Bruno also provided a return home for 3 team members from Chicago and Northern Indiana.

Nicci now has pretty much her own players and recruits coming in and a young staff that probably doesn't have any job options to lure them out of Hammy for a couple/few years. The development of her players from one year to the next is a deliberate process. Slated for PL 7th in preseason polls, it will be interesting to see whether gate can register a PL season closer to the middle of the pack. The bottom half of the PL offers games that gate could win, with the right coaching. Time will tell !

It is just gut wrenching to watch this team get slaughtered with these impossible OOC games. Unless I speak w/ Nicci and the players directly, I will support these lopsided losses. I would not say they are humiliating b/c the coaches and players work their hearts out. What more can you ask for when you know you're going to lose? I anticipate UCONN scoring 3 figures with their reserve players.

Most times this would be a non-factor, but Nicci seems to love her job at Colgate and her enthusiasm is contagious. That, to me, is half the battle. If she wants to keep her D-I basketball career, she knows she must win or she will be damaged goods. Unlike Foto, I am willing to cut her slack. She has a proven winning record at DePaul, just wish that would translate into the same at Colgate. Obviously the two schools couldn't be more different and the expectations should be, too.

How can Lehigh and Bucknell which are similar schools be so superior?

Gate, to answer your question about Bucknell and Lehigh, it starts with recruiting. I too will cut Nicci some slack ( in contrast to Foto ). Nicci took on a thankless job, albeit a D-I coaching gig. She has accumulated the NZ junket, trips to varied high power D! women's hoops venues, cultivated interest in what was a moribund program and finally has hired (fresh out of Masters programs) coaches who need years on the job to stabilize her staff for a while. Now, it's time to bring in a couple of qualiy recruits every year or so.

She seems to have a very good one in freshman Mylah Chandler. But, she needs to avoid "busts" like she had with the current Jr. class. I'm not a very good judge of in-game coaching. But, I enjoy following this program to see what kind of talent she can bring in and develop.

I hope she does really enjoy it as you're saying. She has been through a lot in her first couple of years.

I am tired of waiting.
