Subject: Other Sports Win

VB beat Loyola, WSoc beat Holy Cross, MSoc beat Bucknell, MHoc lost to Northeastern. And, FIELD HOCKEY kept its losing record going strong with a loss to American. So far FIELD HOCKEY IS 0-12 and have only scored two goals once this year and ended up losing anyway, otherwise they have scored only 0 to 1 goal each game. So our premier sports of Football and Men's Hockey look bad while our non-revenue sports are doing pretty good. Maybe some funds need redirection to our winning teams. By the time FB returns for a home game fans will have forgotten Colgate has a team and will gone elsewhere for their sports entertainment. Nest home football attendance will be about 400 if the weather is good and families of the players attend.

Anybody notice that Gate Raider has wide swings in emotion from week to week. Our premier sports of football and hockey need more financial support and better recruiting.

did it ever occur to you that soccer has been so successful because both mens and womens teams have had a lot more funds than other patriot league teams?

Kevin,

The relative success of Colgate's soccer programs has to do with several factors, not just what you claim may be "a lot more funds" and what you suggest might "occur" to other people.

You might as well consider the coaches involved, the tradition of winning that is self-reinforcing, the facilities, the priorities attached to the programs by the Athletic Department and its supporters' involvement, and the relative attractiveness of attending Colgate which is the top ranked PL school according to USN&WR, for what it's worth, after Navy (an entirely different prospect and entity).

Yes, Colgate is in a privileged position with its soccer programs. And this contributes to its perennial success.

Go 'gate!

Yes there are lots of factors. But giving out a lot more scholarships and spending a lot more money has been the most important factor.

Kevin,

Please validate your assertion with some evidence so I can take what you say as fact, not one of those "it's a fact that" opinions.

Thanks in advance.

By the way, the scenario I outlined that contributes to Colgate's soccer programs can also be useful in understanding and describing Colgate's successful lacrosse programs. What's your opinion?

Go 'gate!
