Initial impressions are very favorable. Casey was an athlete at an institution which values athletes (and used its athletic renown to improve its academic standing). Also real world experience as mentioned, and a resume hard to top. His 'oddball quotient" seems very low, certainly compared to Jeffrey, Buddy, Neil, etc.

Read the comments at the bottom of the Colgate press release. If they're legit, a couple of them may knock your socks off.

Yes, gate. Brian Casey's background IS extremely impressive- in a "knock your socks off" way.

Go 'gate!

Do you have a problem just saying it!

Or, are you afraid of your ability to address it head on, like you've done with other posts ?

Apparently, Brian is gay.
Sadly, he is also from New Jersey.

He also seems to be a pretty great get for Colgate.
Any time you can land the scholar-athlete of the year from Notre Dame-- who has degrees from Stanford and Harvard (both with honors) you're off to a good start.
From the sports side, he still works out with the swim team at DePauw--so he seems like the perfect president to understand the sacrifices and commitment it takes to be an athlete.
Comments on articles mention that he is well-like by students and a good fundraiser.
Hopefully, he appreciates Colgate's unique place in Div 1 sports and gets Notre Dame to stop ducking us.
Go 'gate!

I have nothing but admiration for the Selection Committee, the BOT and the University Community for making what looks like a great selection. There will no doubt, be some in our Colgate community who will have a problem with a President who is gay. As beneficiaries of a great Colgate education, I hope that all of us can openly discuss all of the attributes of our next leader. The fear of some posters to be direct can be forgiven. I'm prouder today of what Colgate stands for than I've ever been.

go gate!

"Notre Dame to stop ducking us." I truly hope this comment was made in a joking manner. Let's try to compete at the Patriot League level first. There are some high level D2 & D3 teams that could compete with us in certain sports, which should raise eyebrows.

So this is what's concerning - that he may be gay?!

And there I was reiterating what the article and follow-on comments were endorsing - his achievements and high performance and strong character.

It's just as well then that we know where others may stand on the issue, however.

My main concern - and I am glad that we are airing views about what he may bring to Colgate's D1 athletics programs as someone who knows what it takes to succeed - was that he may want to reintroduce the 16 lap and 5 minutes of treading water swim test. Not that that would be a bad thing, either, come to think of it.

Go 'gate!

The notes at the end of the article had only one additional factoid.
All of Brian's other accomplishments were listed in the atricle.
As a self appointed "Insider" to this board, I'd say you blew it, big time!

Truth Ferret,

I can live with that- as an insider or otherwise. And like I said above, it's good to hear that others are as happy with the appointment as I am!
