In reply to: Lt. Chavez 's message, "Getting ready for Shiloh" on 19:01:36 03/08/12 Thu

I'm moving up my 2012 Co. K Christmas gift to be a Shiloh present for each of the 34 other men of the Alamo Rifles who will be there. And it ain't musket cleaning patches, although every guy sure needs a dozen or two dozen cleaning patches since we'll be cleaning muskets on Friday and Saturday nights between battles. I promise the early Christmas presents will be a welcomed haversack stuffer for all, given our two overnight campaign bivouacs on Thursday and Friday night.

Otherwise, I'm repeating a strong recommendation that I wrote in the Feb-March newsletter: Be sure you have a rubber blanket or painted canvas blanket. There may still be time to order one for $40 from Blockade Runner, but I'd telephone them first to check. With 5,000 men registered for Shiloh they may be having a rash of orders for them. But NOTHING, nothing is handier to have on a rainy or really cold night when you are not under canvas.

I've been rolling cartridges too.
