I woke up naked beneath his
Too-big shirt
as he began to stir beside me.
The morning's harsh light reached the base
of the worn-down couch we had passed out on,
and coaxed him to arise.
With the lingering taste of cheap rum in my mouth
I watched him walk out of the room,
clad only in boxers,
and strained to recall the sex-
but could not.

He returned looking somewhat refreshed
with my shirt and bra in hand.
As I handed him his shorts
my panties fell to the ground-
And part of me wanted to question him,
What had happened?
The other part of me didn't need an answer.

As he showered
I dressed myself,
and wondered where it would go from here-
was last night a mistake?
Somehow, it didn't feel like it;
maybe I was just being naive.
Perhaps I had already given him
the only thing that he wanted.
I poured myself a glass of water.

He came up behind me,
the musky smell of sex
had been washed away,
replaced with the freshness of a new day.
And as he wrapped himself around me,
I let his aroma of possibilities engulf me.
