Ed, Edd n Eddy is an animated television series created by Danny Antonucci and produced by Canada-based a.k.a. Cartoon. It premiered on Cartoon Network on January 4, 1999, and ended on November 8, 2009 with the premiere of the series' TV movie finale, Ed, Edd n Eddy's Big Picture Show. Designed to resemble classic cartoons from the 1940s to the 1970s, the series revolves around three adolescent boys known as "the Eds", who constantly invent schemes to make money from their peers to purchase jawbreakers. Their plans usually fail, leaving them in various predicaments. Before signing a contract with Cartoon Network, Antonucci approached Nickelodeon, but the channel demanded creative control of the show, which Antonucci did not agree to. Several specials, shorts, and video games either based on the series or featuring the series' characters have been produced. Viewed from 31 million households in 29 countries by both children and adults, Ed, Edd n Eddy received positive reviews and several awards and nominations. 1881 – The International Federation of Gymnastics, the world's oldest international sport federation, was founded in Liège, Belgium.

A total of 121 Puerto Rican soldiers were among the 8,200 people from the United States Armed Forces listed as missing in action during the Korean War. This total does not include people of Puerto Rican descent who were born in the US mainland. It was during the Korean War that Puerto Ricans suffered the most casualties as members of an all-Hispanic volunteer unit: the 65th Infantry Regiment. One of the problems the unit faced was the language difference; the common foot soldier spoke only Spanish, while the commanding officers were mostly English-speaking. The Battle of Outpost Kelly (illustration pictured) accounted for 73 of the men missing in action from the total of 121. Out of the 73 MIAs suffered by the regiment in the month of September, 50 of them occurred on the same day: September 18. All 121 men served within the ranks of the United States Army with the sole exception of Ramón Núñez-Juárez, who served in the Marines. Their names are inscribed in El Monumento de la Recordación located in San Juan, Puerto Rico. (more...)

The obverse (left) and reverse sides of a Fields Medal, the colloquial name for a prize awarded to two, three, or four mathematicians not over 40 years of age at each International Congress of Mathematicians. The name is in honour of Canadian mathematician John Charles Fields, who was instrumental in establishing the award. It is often viewed as the greatest honour a mathematician can receive.
