DMG Radio Australia launches Smooth FM
DMG Radio Australia announced the launch of smoothfm 95.3 in Sydney and smoothfm 91.5 in Melbourne, new radio stations delivering a music position that will be unique in both cities on Monday 21 May from 7am.

smoothfm 95.3 in Sydney and smoothfm 91.5 in Melbourne will launch as distinctive, unique, contemporary, soft easy listening format.

DMG Radio Australia identified a unique opportunity that exists in Australian radio for a soft, adult contemporary station. Radio stations in similar global markets where this format exists, Magic in London, Coast FM in Auckland and Lite FM in New York, are number 1 or 2 in their respective markets.

DMG Radio Australia’s Group Program Director Paul Jackson said, “When you live in world class cities like Sydney and Melbourne, life can be pretty hectic. smoothfm, with a playlist including the greatest hits and contemporary easy listening music, will be a place for listeners to tune in and forget the hassles of the day, a great place to relax and unwind.”

DMG Radio Australia has made changes to the stations over the past three months reflecting a move towards this new music position, including bolstering the station’s on-air line up with local Breakfast and Drive announcers, new announcers across the day and well known identities in nights and across the weekend.

From 21 May, David Reyne joins the station to host the Wind Down from 8pm week nights while shows from Richard Wilkins, David Campbell and Jason Donovan will become the perfect soundtrack to a relaxing weekend. There will also be more exciting additions to the weekend line up to be announced shortly.

smoothfm’s ‘More Music and Less Talk’ mantra will be the backbone of the station seven days a week. Monday to Friday, the More Music Breakfast Show with Ed Phillips in Sydney and Mike Perso in Melbourne starts the workday whilst Ty Frost and Mark Robinson continue across the day. Sydney’s Byron Webb and Melbourne’s Cathy Dinn host the More Music Drive Home and David Reyne takes over from 8pm for the Wind Down. This, combined with the high profile announcers on weekends, provides an exciting proposition for the station’s target demographic.

“A major launch of a new radio brand is incredibly exciting not just for DMG Radio Australia, but for the whole industry. It underlines the vibrancy of commercial radio across the country and its importance in our lives. We’ve identified a gap in the market for a music position that is unique in the Sydney and Melbourne radio landscape and we’re confident that listeners will embrace smoothfm,” dmg Radio Australia’s CEO Cathy O’Connor said.

“DMG Radio Australia now has a comprehensive portfolio to go into market. smoothfm, when combined with the Nova Network, will provide an incredible offering to both the under and over 40s with enormous revenue opportunities for the company.”

The launch will be supported by a comprehensive marketing campaign with further details to follow prior to the launch date.

smoothfm 95.3 and smoothfm 91.5 will be the new place to relax in Sydney and Melbourne from 21 May.
