IN a blast from the past, eighties pop icon Rick Astley is touring Australia for the first time in 23 years.
..The Never Gonna Give You Up hit maker will play the Palace on November 30 and Chelsea Heights Hotel on December 1.

The British singer rose to fame as part of the Stock Aitken Waterman hit factory which also gave the world Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and hits for Bananarama and Dead or Alive.

He was considered one of the best vocalists the hitmakers worked with.

Astley's other hits include Together Forever, Whenever You Need Somebody, Take Me To Your Heart, She Wants to Dance With Me and his post Stock Aitken Waterman ballad, Cry For Help.

He sold over 40 million records before winding down his career in 1993.

His last release was the 2005 covers album, Portrait.

The last few years saw Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up video randomly popping up online as part of the "Rickrolling" phase.

The video has had over 50 million views on YouTube, deliberately or otherwise.

Astley released one-off single Lights Out last year.

Tickets for Astley’s Melbourne shows go on sale July 9 through Ticketmaster
