Author: Shula, Tew || Kaw
Subject: Confrontation.

Shula's barreled frame gallops hard across the battlefield, followed easily by Tew's lanky form as the 'second practically jogs to keep up with the red's fastest gait. There is so much yet to do, the tan muses in the solitude of his own mind. Shula and I are still so young... Atumi and Erashun are stronger than we, yet decades older as well... what will we be like when we are their age, in the primes of our lives like they are? A mental pause. I wonder if Wureshi will be dead by then... and if not, I wonder how long we'll live...

The sudden presence of a long-legged, blackened red body in his path causes Shula to slam on the brakes and skid to a rough stop, almost tripping and rolling. Kaw's one good eye glares greenly at the red, and, as Tew also canters to a stop, he ignores the other male. "You are going to get this pack killed if you don't shape up."

Shula's mahogany eyes widen, pupil dilating with rage at the insult. "--!" But Kaw doesn't let him speak, a sheathed-claw blow with one heavy forehand landing across the younger red's muzzle and silencing him as though he were a mere upstart. "From what I know, you have done well up to this point in leading your pack. Otherwise, they wouldn't go to such lengths to tolerate your excesses, your flaws, your stupidities." Shula snarled wordlessly, but Kaw spoke over him in the same low, thick voice. "I have no particular urge to take over this pack, you young fool, but if you don't shape up I might well be forced to. You will fast lose them if you don't get yourself under control."

Shula finally struck back, curving claws raking for the older's muzzle, but Kaw twisted his jaws and caught the other's forehand easily, held it without biting down, stared fearlessly into the healthier red's eyes.

Tew edged backwards, wanting clear should this erupt into a melee... but his blue eyes were sparkling, expression neutrally intense. This may be what Shula needs. Redwood isn't around to keep him walking the straight and narrow any more...

Shula's ears were flattened so tightly to his skull that they were beginning to ache, but the burly male ignored the vague pain and curled his lip as high as it would go. "You couldn't win against me, Kaw," he spat, balancing on three legs. "You don't have claws, teeth, or a blade. Half of you is warped scar tissue. All that's left in that husk that you call a body is your mind and your senses... but you can't win a battle with those."

"Oh, can't I?" Kaw almost smirked, muzzle twitching once to apply slightly greater pressure on Shula's forehand. "I killed four Korats when wounded far worse, and I could've killed Wureshi when half-dead myself, but the coward fled. Do not doubt me when I say I can kill you, you who shames the sidifir oerri's name."

A roar erupted from Shula's throat and he ripped his forehand away, lunging in an instant for the older red with fire blazing in his eyes. Kaw sidestepped, not blinded by rage, and with one blow of his thick tail knocked the younger red sprawling. "Anger does not strengthen, it blinds." Kaw shook his scarred muzzle as Shula sprang back up, ready for another try. "Don't bother me with your pride right now. You and your tan need to hunt to keep your pack alive. I'll be doing much of the same, though thankfully not in your company. Shape up, cub, or I'll kill you personally."

Kaw turned away, eased his tall frame into a lope, and headed northwest as Shula stared after him, dumbfounded.

Tew sighed mentally. The big man's a good warrior and mostly a good leader, but he's lacking in the intelligence arena... says the tan genius, he adds self-mockingly, a grin tugging at his thin muzzle. "C'mon, Shul', there are hungry cubs in the clearing." The russet-furred male snarled under his breath, but followed as his 'second led the way out of the territory.
