At this point, nothing could surprise the adolescent. What Atumi has just done with the leaves is quite clear to her, and she stores the information in her mind for future reference, having seen in action what she had previously deduced.
Concentrating silently, she obeys his instruction, reaching out to the flames with her less damaged forehand. He is, of course, right: it is quite difficult to touch the core, but that core is very like her own. Soon enough she has drawn a little of the warmth into herself. It disperses through her veins, suffusing her with a gently glowing feeling. A little strange perhaps, but not entirely new.
"Well, I can feel it," she says, now carefully guarding her emotions. It was clear there was no way he could have missed that shudder, but it didn't seem to be taken for weakness. Yet.
