某日侍郎、尚書、御史三個高官走在路上，看見一隻狗從三人面前跑過。

御史藉機會問侍郎：「是狼是狗？」（侍郎是狗）
侍郎臉都綠了：「是狗。」
尚書和御史都大笑：「何以知道是狗？」
侍郎：「看尾毛，下垂是狼，上梳是狗（尚書是狗）。」
尚書臉沉了下來。
侍郎：「也可以從食性看。狼是肉食，狗是遇肉吃肉，遇屎吃屎（御史吃屎）」
