I understand that my children may be a a bit hyper and "wound up" at bedtime, but I don't think a spanking will calm them down very much. So, generally speaking, if my children are all wound up and hyper at bedtime, rather than a spanking, I usually come in with a story to read them, or to give my son a back rub. This will calm them down, and then, when he's nice and relaxed, the "Sand Man" will come visit. However, if I see that my child is taking advantage of my generosity, and acts up after an extra story, or a back-rub, when he should have let sleep come upon him, well, in that case he is likely to find my hand come upon his bottom. I guess this is one of the few rules in the house that never caused me problems. It is so weird. My bedtime used to be 10:00pm. When my parents took it away and let me manage this myself, I found that, more times than not, I was going to bed before 10:00. I have a friend that says he has no bed time but he does have an up time. I suppose that is true at my house. Part of the guidelines for not having a bed time is that we stay alert in school and that we get up on time with no issues. I guess it should be said, that one of the alternative punishments in our house is early bed time. So, if we get this punishment, we do have a bed time and it is always ridiculously early. (Usually 6:30 PM - my parents don't play.) [ Post a Reply to This Message ]
