I noticed your post on your son's thread. I wanted to send my greetings from one parent to another.

My sons (PJ, Caleb, and Mark) and my nephew (Benji) all post here.

Please be at peace. No one will consider you mean or grouchy. If opinions of us were formed based on what is posted here, I would be a tyrant.

I think it is good for our kids to realize that they are not alone in the way in which they are corrected and disciplined. I am very leery of these sort of places and, in fact, banned my sons and nephew from the predecessor to this forum. The boys still actively participate in another board that I approved but were missing an open forum and contact with "friends" they had from a previous site. When this site opened, I allowed participation with my oversight. I have been pleased with what I have seen here. I had one minor concern and I addressed it to the moderator who corrected the issue immediately. I say all of that to tell you that I feel your son is safe here.

Since my boys have participated in these sort of boards, I have found that they are much more accepting of and much more cooperative with physical correction. I have also learned from the input of others as well.

My wife is a teacher but is on leave as she is expecting our fifth child at Christmas. We finally get a girl! I am a pastor at a church in our community.

The oldest son is Mark and he is 16. Mark is not my biological child but I have known him since he was 5 years old. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, he came to live in my home. Karen and I are working to adopt him. I consider him my son.

PJ is also 16. Caleb is 14 and will be 15 in October. We then waited a few years as Joshua (JB) is only 10 months old. Elizabeth Grace is due on Christmas Day.

Welcome to you. I strongly encourage you to become an active participant here yourself.

Thanks. I feel better knowing that other parents are monitoring the site, too, and keeping an eye on things. I read through most of the posts. It sounds like you have four wonderful boys. Congratulations on the new baby!

Chris is our only child. We are very proud of him. He has a form of cerebral palsy, which causes him to have some limitations, but he has done well with the challenges he faces. It has been difficult for Chris to make a lot of friends, so I think this forum will help him.

Discipline has been a challenge for us. We never spanked Chris until he was about 8 years old. We couldn't bring ourselves to do it, even though we believed he needed it sometimes. We really had spoiled him. My mother-in-law finally said to me one day, "it's awful to have a child who's disabled, but it's worse to have one who's disabled and spoiled." We decided to try spanking. It was the hardest thing we ever did, but it was the right thing to do. Chris still has some behavior issues, but he is well behaved most of the time.

Thanks so much for your support.

Bev
