Hi Bob.

First, I would check that ALL your earth connections are good. That is, the Brown wire at your STATOR, The White wire from your STATOR, and regulator earth.

The STATOR has two coils that feed voltage to the two transducers. Each STATOR coil has two feed wires, one being Green and the other White (Gn&Wh), and each (two off) Gn&Wh in a sheald that connects to the 2 transducers.
These transducers are what provides your HT to the sparking plugs.

Your tacho readings are taken from a tapping on ONE of the STATOR coils, and the cable colour is GRAY. Now disconnect both Gn&Wh from BOTH transducers. Also, disconnect the GRAY wire at your STATOR. Now with an mulimeter check the OHMS reading between the STATOR White and gray. It should read 1025 OHMS.

Readings between the STATOR Gn/Wh wires should be between 230 - 330 OHMS

... 1K OHM resistor is needed in the tacho system ...
If your tacho has a BLUE label on the back, then the 1K OHM resistor is with-in.

If your tacho has a RED label on the back, then the 1K OHM resistor should be inline to your GRAY cable. IF NOT, then your STATOR has this 1K OHM resistor ON THE STATOR itself (the latter applies up to engine serial number 3957334.

Regards ...> Alan
