Subject: Paddles

Together with my sons, we made paddles for each of five of my sons. (The ones 8 to 11 years-old.) I tried to make it a fun sort of project, and they did enjoy the time in the shop together with me.

To this point, I haven't really settled on a particular implement to use in spanking them. Hence, the thought to use paddles came from the Family Forum; it seems to be the most common implement being used. My question is whether any of you have any suggestions or ideas in using them. My children are basically afraid of them. While I certainly do not want them to be "fans" of them, neither do I want fear to be a component of my discipline. I have had a couple of children in the Family Forum explain about paddles to my boys, but I am still concerned about their reaction to them. So, if any of you have some thoughts here, it will be appreciated. Thanks!

Reserve the paddle for serious offences to start with, warn them first that the paddle will be the final sanction and then introduce as a 'finishing off' implement at the end of a hand spanking.
