Dark Beings, Dark Things, Evil Presences, Kept Souls- they have many names. All are essentially the same creature.

They come about under given conditions. They must come from mortals of great power who died in a moment of utter fear and anger, by the hand of a magical or enchanted weapon. That will cause the fleeing Spirit and Soul to try and cling to each other, which causes memory loss and leaves only emotion. That alone is not uncommon- under normal conditions, they would just split up again.
A TrueBorn has to be present- one from the Faerie kingdoms. That draws Verdandi's attention, which causes a temporary distortion of the existance, causing the spirit and soul to become trapped without a body. If they never regain their memories, and they are in a structure which effectively confines them- a Dark Thing is born. It is highly inteligent, very powerful, and very violent. They have no bodies of their own, so they act through others. The longer they live, the more powerful and twisted they become.

They spend their lives trying to escape the structures that seal them in. In some cases, it is simple as the fact that there are spells over the door that keep them from escaping. In most, it is because their very existance brings a curse to hold them in place. When they are slain by outsiders, they find peace. When they get FREE, however.... You have heard of the 13 Powers that go about and try to create an existance without life? Well, thats what they all were. Even the Night Hawk. Dark Beings get free, find a host, and take over. They then join the others, and become the left hand of Chaos. It has only happened 13 times, but if these two continue to communicate, that nimber may rise.
