We have always had to have our pictures digitally touched up because of stray hairs or slightly botched makeup, but have never altered our child's appearance. Unfortunately, photogenic is more about a perfect picture than a photogenic kid and everything has to be perfect. But as long as that is want, that is what we are going to give them.

I'm the second poster. I personally don't see anything wrong with removing smudged makeup or taking out a stray hair. There are some things like that that you don't notice until you get the proofs back and you can't waste an entire roll of film because of a smudge. But, I do think that the quest for perfection has gone too far. Like you said, it's not about who's the most photogenic anymore, it's who has the most flawless picture. The way it's judged, they are judging the quallity of the photographer instead of the natural beauty and photogenic abillity of the child. Like I said, we moms need to start boycotting pageants who include photos in overall. Let them know how we feel. If it doesn't make them money, they won't do it.
