It depends upon how well your engine is running and which spark plug you are using.

Normal plugs should be .027 +/- .004. When I run normal plugs, I set them at .028 in my eta.

There are other plugs to choose from if you are willing to shell out $15 each. Denso plugs have worked well for me and they seem to last a lot longer that Bosch Silver. The Bosch Silver plugs are good plugs and for the price, you will be hard pressed to find a better plug. Denso Iridium plugs are the best that I have ever used. They are also the most expensive spark plugs that I have ever purchased. Denso plugs give me an extra 20-30 miles per tank. I can't really feel a power increase; but, they are obviously doing something since I have a major mpg increase. The gap on Denso Iridium should be .023 if you are running at normal air/fuel mixture. I care more for power than for mpg but 200-220 miles to the tank gets ridiculous sometimes.

When my eta was running rich, I had better fuel economy with the W8CLR plugs from the 'i' engine than the WR9LS eta plugs. It also helps (minimal) to aim the spark plug. Aiming the spark plug can't be done correctly without removing the head though. The gain from aiming the plug really isn't worth the time that it takes since we are not top fuel dragsters.
