It's a dream - when I was 25 I wanted to have a home an easy drive from anywhere in Oregon. Didn't think about the maintenance or the economics. 25 years later we have 13 different addresses - 54 units. It's my job - they are all within a fifteen mile radius, the tenants cover the costs and provide a comfortable life for us, and we have been able to buy houses that are attractive to us and renovate (customize?) them to suit our visions.

The dream was the beginning, and it served us well - but we don't own any vacation homes - you get used to having things pay for themselves. We look at property wherever we go - most recently in Belize - but the reality is that to do well one must understand one's subject - and we are not well grounded in Belezian property values and upkeep costs and legal ramifications. American self centered provincial attitudes may be due to a recognition and acceptance of the maxim that to succeed one should do what one knows and does best. Not very adventurous or pioneering....but true.

In any case, dream on - and if you aim at something you may hit it, but if you aim at nothing you will surely achieve that.

Tom
