BEN has attracted a user base that is far more intelligent, discerning, and tasteful than any e30 forum I've seen so far, namely DTM and roadfly. I'm guilty of brousing the posts at DTM too, but seeing the lack in quality and usefullness of threads, many (relatively speaking) being written by teenage M3 owners (grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!)I've found I can hardly read a post there without thinking of the author as a ricer who would die happy if his e30 sprouted 300 more horsepower, and wore plastic skirts and chickenwire (those of you who have put "mesh grills" on, shame on you). Of course that idea might strike some of you as appealing too, but it all comes down to understanding that your car could be dusted from a stoplight by a late model Hyundai, and that doesn't make the Hyundai right.
Which brings me around to my point: that this concept would be lost on the demographically challenged DTM or roadfly, but I think that the ones who have stuck it out at BEN bring a lot more to the table, both in life experiance, and car experiance.
I've learned a good deal from you people, and I believe a community at the top of the food chain should behave like one. It would be very nice to have a down home forum again, and to have the rest of the site back, but I hope none of the good people here will be drawn away by the temptations of the dark and evil DTM ;) just because our forum is presently in a homeless shelter, so to speak.
Anyone having the capability and time, I think, should just do the rebuild. Obviously the encouragement is not forthcoming, bot that doesn't mean it's not there. Pretty pictures and happy colors make people happy, so when everyone has a pretty happy place to stare at while they read and write, they will be happy, and probably eternally grateful.
Enough ranting.
That's my piece
-Jon
