If you choose a dark background,
such as a Dark Nighttime Sky with Stars;
you might want to change the Text Color.

So, when you go to:
advanced User Options
general
DISPLAY SETTINGS,
you will see "Page Design".

URL to Header Image (with http://)
ALT-Text for Header Image Tag
Header image border width (0=none)
URL of your Homepage for link-back (with http://)
Text for link-back
URL to Background image
Background color #FFFFFF

Now, go to the next options:

Normal text color #000000
Link color #0000FF
Visited link color #3300FF
Active link color

You can try to change those numbers into a darker shade.

Here's one possible code:
------------------
Normal Text Color #CCD6EO
(any text written will be this color.)
(For example: "Lessons for Beginners"
"The Easiest Way to Create Your Own forum")
-------------------

LINK COLOR #CCD9FF
(anything written within HTML labels will be this color)
(for example: where it says "LEARN BASIC HTML"
or, "GENERATE ENDLESS BACKGROUND COLORS"
-------------------

VISITED LINK COLOR #A3BAFF

(when you've already clicked a link, it changes color)
(this allows you to keep track of which links you've already tried.)

-----------------------------
The above sequence makes a lightish blue to white appearance.
-----------------------------
So, here's what the previous code looks like:
Normal text color #CCD6E0
Link color #CCD9FF
Visited link color #A3BAFF

Here's another code sequence (which gives another unique overall look):
This gives a lighting blue-purple

Normal text color #EADC77
Link color #C7C7FF
Visited link color #9999FF

I originally chose 8c8cff for the Visited Link Color.
but that was a bit too dark.

I've chosen very interesting colors.
I didn't want the text to be too white,
(Although it would've been easier to read).

this sequence creates whiter colors.
It's easy to read, but less cosmetically attractive.
Normal text color #FCFAEB
Link color #E6E6FF
Visited link color #C7C7FF

So, if you choose a dark background,
your Text color should also change for easier readability.

here's a good example;
http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colormixer.asp?colorbottom=D8BFD8&colortop=FFFFFF

This gives you a range from off-pink, to off-white.

#FF9999
#FD9B9C
#FB9D9F
#F99FA2
#F7A1A6
#F5A2A9
#F3A4AC
#F1A6AF
#EFA8B2
#EDAAB5
#ECACB8
#EAAEBC
#E8B0BF
#E6B2C2
#E4B4C5
#E2B6C8
#E0B7CB
#DEB9CF
#DCBBD2
#DABDD5
#D8BFD8

Surprisingly, you can also substitute this for relatively dark colors, as well.

In other words, you can probably use Medium-Blue or Purple text against a dark background.

So, your text doesn't need to be white or Yellow.

Personally, I love this dark background more than any other:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZpXkfh4mz88/UVEQlPKUYwI/AAAAAAAAADk/TTc9XDnSaFA/s1600/channels39_background.jpg

But, if you don't change the Text Colors,
you'll barely be able to see the words.

When choosing a text color, I prefer using dull variations of bright colors.
(example: Dull Yellow).
Personally, I find bright yellow to be a touch too bright.

Here's a good example using the HTML Color Picker page;
(listed on top as "pick your color"),

http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp

Normal text color FFFFA3
Link color FFFFE0
Visited link color E6E65C

on the http://www.w3schools.com/tags/ref_colorpicker.asp page,
I scrolled way down to "Selected Color", and typed #FFFF66.
and, all the variations appeared along side.

#000000
#1A1A0A
#333314
#4C4C1F
#666629
#808033
#99993D
#B2B247
#CCCC52
#E6E65C
#FFFF66
#FFFF75
#FFFF85
#FFFF94
#FFFFA3
#FFFFB2
#FFFFC2
#FFFFD1
#FFFFE0
#FFFFF0
#FFFFFF

That's how I derived my choices.

But, if you prefer a brighter yellow,
then go to the Color Picker and choose #FFFF00.

and all the variations will appear aside.

Obviously, you may also decide to use Red or pink.
You can even use Baby blue or light Purple against a dark background.
