I had orginally sent this message into the loverboy.ca website on February 19 but as a lot of fans know by now, that site has shut down and I never was able to get my message posted. So I would like to wish Paul Dean a belated Happy Birthday! After the Loverboy concert in Edmonton in July, I had the chance to tell Paul that I really like his solo recordings, "Hardcore" and "Machine". I had found "Machine" in 1997 after seeing Loverboy in Calgary and then a friend of mine had found an L.P. copy of "Hardcore" last April. But I was very pleased that I was also able to locate the C.D. copy at a local used record store, ironically again, the day after their concert in July. I had asked him if he would be putting out anymore solos but he replied that it is not worth it because of the problems surrounding music piracy on the Internet. (It is too bad that some people choose to "abuse" the use of the Internet in this way--and really the rights of the musician--instead of supporting musicians by purchasing their music through the retailers or at least legitimately off of the Net.) Paul, you are one talented guitarist and I admire your versatility as a musician. I wish that we would be hearing more from you--solo-wise--in the future! It really is a shame that music piracy is preventing you from recording your own music. I have heard that some recording artists are putting their music directly onto the Net and had wondered if this were an option. Nikia
P.S.(I think that your version of "Action" is much better than the Streetheart version. No disrespect to Kenny Shields but personally, as a musician he never did much for me. And I LOVE the line in "Politics" "That's why I don't sing I play guitar!" Oh no Paul, you don't sing at all, do you?! Gotta love it!)
